Budget ~$50-60 round trip. Have the Uber app loaded and a backup payment method ready. Tip: Request UberX or Comfort for car seats if Carter needs one.

9:00 AM
~20 min Uber ride. Balboa Island Ferry ($1.50 per person!), Fun Zone (mini Ferris wheel, arcades, candy shops), beautiful calm-water bay beach — great for Carter. The bay side is much calmer than the ocean side.
🌊 Beach Safety — Newport
For Carter: Stay on the bay side (Balboa Island) — the water is calm and shallow. The ocean side has strong currents and big surf. Always swim near a lifeguard tower. Newport has year-round lifeguards — look for the red towers. Apply sunscreen every 2 hours, even on cloudy CA days. Bring water shoes for rocky areas near tide pools. Rip current rule: If pulled out, swim parallel to shore — never fight it.
Lunch
Fresh, casual seafood right on the harbor. No reservation needed — counter order. Walking distance from Balboa Fun Zone.

🚕 Uber Day — Transportation
Jay has the rental car for work again. Uber from Embassy Suites → Laguna Beach ~$25-35 (25 min). Laguna → Great Park ~$18-25 (15 min). Great Park → Embassy Suites ~$12-18. Budget ~$55-80 total for the day.
🎨
9:00 AM
Uber to Laguna Beach 📍 Directions — Beach Day & Art Walk
~25 min Uber. Start at Main Beach (lifeguard HQ) — the safest swimming beach in Laguna. Walk downtown art galleries and shops. Explore tide pools at 1000 Steps Beach or Victoria Beach (has a cool pirate tower!).
🌊 Beach Safety — Laguna
Main Beach is the safest option — lifeguards, calm water, and shallow entry. Tide pools are stunning but watch for slippery rocks and rising tides (check tide charts before going). The coves can have surprise waves — never turn your back on the ocean. Bring water shoes! Rocky bottom in many areas. Apply reef-safe sunscreen frequently.
Lunch
Ocean views, casual atmosphere, scenic lunch spot. Walking distance from Main Beach. No reservation needed for lunch.
🎈
1:30 PM
Free balloon ride (tethered, 400 ft up!), carousel ($3), playground, splash pad, and open green spaces. Carter will love this — and it's free! The playground area is huge and modern.

Disney Strategy & Lightning Lane Intel
Lightning Lane Rules (Know This Cold)
Multi Pass strategy, booking windows, priorities
Multi Pass (Included 2-Day Ticket)
Hold ONE active LL at a time. After tap-in, immediately book next. Max 3 Multi Pass LLs held at once. One ride per attraction per day.
2-Hour Rule
If return time is 2+ hours away, you can book another LL at the 2-hour mark. Check your watch — don't miss the window.
Single Pass (Paid LL)
Rise of the Resistance at Disneyland: $15–$35/person. NOT included in Multi Pass.
Radiator Springs Racers at DCA: $17–$25/person. Buy IMMEDIATELY at entry.
Key Strategy
Never waste LL on rides with <25 min standby. Save LL for 45+ min waits. Use standby for low-wait rides (Pirates, Haunted Mansion, Jungle Cruise).
Booking Priority
1. Book first LL the SECOND gates open. 2. Check app every 30 min for drop-in slots. 3. Late afternoon often has last-minute availability.
🏰
Disneyland DO / AVOID
Easter Sunday strategy — crowds 12–3 PM worst
DO
✓ Book first LL SECOND gates open (7:00 AM)
✓ Rope-drop Indy (often under 20 min standby)
✓ Mobile order lunch 30 min early (avoid noon chaos)
✓ Use railroad as free transit between lands
✓ Stay until close (last hours 7–10 PM are calm)
✓ Apply sunscreen BEFORE leaving hotel
✓ Drink water constantly — every 30 min
AVOID
✗ Wasting LL on short-wait rides
✗ Fighting 12–3 PM crowds (go to theater shows, Tiki Room, ride railroad)
✗ Sitting lunch (mobile order + walk, eat by attraction)
✗ Letting phone die (no LL, no mobile order, no map, dead weight)
✗ Waiting for fireworks from hub (you have Skyline Terrace reservation)
🏎️
DCA DO / AVOID & Radiator Springs
Monday strategy — buy Single Pass immediately
Radiator Springs Single Pass Decision
$17–$25/person — BUY IT IMMEDIATELY at entry. Standby is 60–90+ min. Single Pass typically 15–30 min. Worth every dollar.
DO
✓ Buy Radiator Springs Single Pass AT ENTRY (app or ticket booth)
✓ Ride Grizzly River Run 1–3 PM (warm water)
✓ Visit Turtle Talk with Crush (15 min, air-conditioned)
✓ Get to World of Color 45–60 min early (best viewing)
✓ Walk Cars Land at dusk/night (magical neon)
AVOID
✗ Wasting LL on Web Slingers (has single rider line)
✗ Rope-dropping Radiator Springs if buying Single Pass
✗ Skipping Animation Academy (cool + AC + short wait)
🆘
Backup Plans & Contingencies
When things go sideways
If Rise of the Resistance Goes Down
Reroute to Smuggler's Run standby. Check app for reopening — waits often spike then drop. Have backup: Galaxy's Edge walk-around, Cantina snacks.
If All LL Return Times Are 3+ Hours
Switch to standby-first strategy. Hit low-wait rides (under 30 min). Late afternoon LLs often free up — keep checking app.
If Someone Hits a Wall (Tired, Sore, Overwhelmed)
Hotel reset: 15-min drive back, pool, AC, 45 min rest. Return refreshed. Better than pushing through and ruining the day.
If Radiator Springs Single Pass Sells Out
Rope-drop standby (early morning under 30 min) OR single rider line afternoon. Not ideal, but manageable.

Pixar Pier Boardwalk Games
Win a stuffed animal. Let Carter pick which game — he picks the prize if he wins.

  • Cars Land neon at dusk (6:30 PM Monday) — The whole family. Cars Land is magical at night.
  • Pixar Pal-A-Round from top — Ferris wheel at golden hour.
  • World of Color — Ask a nearby family to snap a photo of you during the show.
  • Group shots with characters — Galaxy's Edge, Avengers Campus. Get the autographs too.

Recovery & Downtime Strategy
👟
Feet — #1 Trip Killer
Prevention + daily care (20,000+ steps per park day)
BEFORE Trip (This Week)
Break in shoes. Walk 3+ miles daily. No new shoes on park days — blisters = trip killer.
Morning (6:00 AM, Before Leaving Hotel)
Critical: Apply Body Glide / Vaseline to heels, toes, ball of foot. Put moleskin on any hotspots. This takes 2 minutes and prevents hours of pain.
Mid-Day (12:00 PM, Lunch Break)
Change socks if possible. Sit for 10 min. Ibuprofen if soreness starting.
Evening (Back at Hotel, 6:00+ PM)
Elevate feet 15 min. Ice if swollen. Soak in cool water. Ibuprofen for soreness. Early bed.
Emergency Blister
First Aid stations have supplies. Don't wait — treat immediately. Untreated blisters become infected and ruin the trip.
💧
Hydration Protocol (Non-Negotiable)
Warning signs + timing strategy
Day-Before Park Day
Start hydrating the day before. Drink water with every meal. You're building a water reserve.
In the Park — Every 30 Minutes
Free ice water at any counter service. Ask for a cup. Don't wait until thirsty.
Electrolyte Timing
Noon: Dump 1 Liquid IV packet in water. Drink it. 3:00 PM: Repeat. This prevents bonking.
Warning Signs (STOP & HYDRATE)
Headache, fatigue, irritability, dark urine, dizziness = dehydrated. First aid: water + electrolyte + rest 15 min. Don't ignore.
Carter Is the Canary
If Carter gets cranky, he's dehydrated first. Give him water + electrolyte + snack. Kids hit the wall faster.
⏸️

⚠️
Top 10 Mistakes to Avoid
Common trip-killers — don't learn the hard way
  1. Not buying Radiator Springs Single Pass immediately — Wasting 60+ min in standby.
  2. Wearing new shoes to a park day — 20,000+ steps = guaranteed blisters. Break them in NOW.
  3. Letting your phone die — No LL bookings, no mobile order, no map. Dead weight. Portable charger non-negotiable.
  4. Fighting midday crowds on Easter Sunday — Go to shows/theater/Tiki Room. Don't stand in lines 12–3 PM.
  5. Skipping sunscreen — UV 7–8 even if overcast. Apply 30 min before, reapply at noon. Sunburn ruins the rest of trip.
  6. Big sit-down lunch at noon — Take 1–2 hours and crowds are worst. Mobile order + walk + eat by attraction instead.
  7. Leaving the park before 9 PM — Last hours 7–10 PM are calm, shows are epic. Stay late.
  8. Not packing night before Day 9 — 5:00 AM wakeup comes fast. Bags must be zipped & ready or chaos.
  9. Wasting Lightning Lane on low-wait rides — Use LL for 45+ min waits. Use standby for 25 min or less.
  10. Not filling rental car gas tank night before drop-off — Return fees are brutal. Fill up on Day 9 morning or night before.

Recovery Plan
Feet, Fluids & Park Recovery
👟 Foot Recovery Kit
Park concrete is the sneaky killer on this trip. Plan for blister prevention and end-of-night recovery, not just shoes.
Bring: moisture-wicking socks, blister bandages, moleskin, foot wraps or KT tape, Body Glide, insoles if needed, and recovery sandals for the hotel.
Change socks midday if anyone gets a hotspot. Wrap it early instead of trying to gut it out for 8 more hours.
💧 Hydration & Recovery
Park day rule: water alone is not enough.
Pack electrolyte sticks or tablets, Advil/Tylenol, protein snacks, and something salty for late afternoon. Disney + SeaWorld + SoCal sun will drain everybody faster than expected.
Best rhythm: electrolyte in the morning, refill water at lunch, another electrolyte packet after the park or before the drive home if legs are cooked.
